Bianca Margean, soprano
Bianca Margean is one of the most exciting young talents in today’s world. With a youthful lirico-spinto voice of exceptional beauty and color, she brings to mind the sopranos of the Golden Age of singing and the great tradition of Romanian sopranos. Her musical expressivity and dramatic intensity create a magical connection with her audience.
Recent performances include Maddalena (Andrea Chénier) at the Bavena Festival in Italy, Cio-cio-san (Madama Butterfly) in Bucharest, Mimí (La Bohème) in Tel Aviv. Concert appearances include Opera Galas with the State Philharmonic of Sibiu and with the Israel Chamber Orchestra in Tel Aviv. She also appeared as the soprano soloist in the Rossini Stabat Mater at the National University of Bucharest.
Ms. Margean has won prizes in several competitions: 1st Prize at the International Competition “Hariclea Darclée” in Brăila, Romania (2012), 1st Prize at the National Competition “Victor Giuleanu” in Bucharest (2011), Best Female Performance at the Lions Club - “Umberto Giordano” Competition in Foggia, Italy (2013), 2nd Prize at the International Competition “Ottavio Ziino” in Rome (2013), 2nd Prize at the National Competition “Mihail Jora” in Bucharest (2011), 3rd Prize at the International Competition “Elena Teodorini” in Romania (2013), and was awarded the Adela Burlui Prize at the Festival and National Contest of Lied Interpretation in Slobozia (2011).
Bianca Margean was born in Bucharest and studied at the “Dinu Lipatti” Music High School and the National University of Music in Bucharest. Her principal voice teachers were Eleonora Enăchescu and Maria Slătinaru-Nistor in Romania, and she now studies with Ira Siff and coaches with Liora Maurer from the Metropolitan Opera when she is in New York.
