Mario Malagnini, tenor 

 

was born in Salò on Lake Garda, and from an early age he studied music at the Brescia Conservatorio gaining a distinction and diploma in Trombone in 1980 and a diploma with top marks in Singing in 1984 from the Verdi Conservatorio where he    studied under the guidance of Pier Miranda Ferraro. 

 

In 1983 he won the 1st prize at the “Tito Gobbi” competition in Bassano del Grappa; in 1984, after his graduation, he received the 1st prize at the international competitions of  “Belvedere” (Vienna), “Caruso” (Milano) and “The Enna    Competition”. Thanks to these competitions he met some great artists, with whom he refined his technique, such as Giuseppe di Stefano, Tito Gobbi, Franco Corelli, Carlo Bergonzi, Gianni  Raimondi and Gian Giacomo Guelfi. 

 

He made his debut in 1984 in Milan with  “Il Corsaro” by Giuseppe Verdi.  

 

Mario Malagnini appeares on some of the world’s finest and most prestigious opera stages, including: La Scala (Milan), L’Arena di Verona, the Deutsche Oper (Berlin), Covent Garden (London), Staatsopera (Vienna), the Paris Opera Theatre,

 

This notable Italian tenor to sing under the batons of Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Giuseppe Patané, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Placido Domingo, whom he did not only substitute in the singing role for a number of times, but he was chosen by Domingo himself for a production of Carmen in Los Angeles and in another production of Aida at the Terme di Carcalla, both under Domingo’s musical direction.
